No-Till Farming

What does “no-till” farming mean? It means we focus on our soil health to boost our vegetable growth. Tillage of soils has increased carbon dioxide emissions in our atmosphere. You see, when farmers till soil, it breaks the layer of organic matter and exposes it to air. It also interrupts the pathways that worms, water and organic matter make to increase the permeability of the soil, thus making it more compact. The more compact and tilled the soil is, the more fertilizers and synthetic chemicals need to be used to keep the soil “sweet”.

Hampton Hills Farm uses compost from local farmers, not to mention making our own. With the addition of cardboard, this entire mixture helps to feed and loosen the soil, keeping the carbon and nutrients right where they need to be. It helps grow bigger, better and more flavorful produce for you and your family. You can absolutely taste the difference.

What do we grow here?

Hampton Hills Farm grows a mixture of fruits and vegetables. In our orchard, we have newly planted apple, pear and paw-paw trees. We also have a standing grove of blueberries and strawberries. In our garden beds, we focus on the most utilized staples in the kitchen. Besides tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and squash, you can rely on us for our salad mix, peppers, herbs and okra. Each year we venture out into trying new varieties of vegetables in our test beds, like kohlrabi, beets and carrots. Our customers include our neighbors and fellow community members, local restaurants and caterers . You get the most fresh, most flavorful and most nutritious food to put on your family's table. If you see it at our Farmers Market, it was harvested just that morning.
